You can pick any day and find a monumental moment in music history. Music is an indelible part of the human experience and we always love to reflect on the achievements of the past that have led us to the industry and legends that we have now. Musicians Institute believes in celebrating the roots of all music genres, so our students and faculty continue to be the most multi-faceted musicians that they can be. Some of our most successful alumni attribute their success to that! For this series, we will share some fun facts about some pretty defining moments in music history on a certain day. This time, it’s October 23, and a LOT of great things happened.
1962: A 12-year-old Stevie Wonder recorded his first single, “Thank You (For Loving Me All The Way)” for Motown Records
1963: Between October 23 and 24, Bob Dylan wrote “The Times They Are a-Changin'” at Columbia Studios in NYC, which would go on to be considered one of the greatest songs of all time.
1966: The Jimi Hendrix Experience recorded their first single ‘Hey Joe’, at De Lane Lea studios in London.

1976: Led Zeppelin made their U.S. television debut on ABC’s Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert show, where they preformed ‘Black Dog’ and ‘Dazed and Confused.’
1982: Culture Club hit No.1 on the UK singles chart with ‘Do You Really Want To Hurt Me’ from their debut album. The iconic song hit the U.S. charts in early 1983.
1989: Nirvana played their first ever European show when they appeared at Riverside Club in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.
2006: Amy Winehouse releases her signature song, ‘Rehab,’ from her second studio album, Back to Black. This song would go on to win 3 Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
