Education has continued to evolve with the times, and nothing has made more of an impact for students than distance learning. Since the early 2010s, online education enrollment has steadily continued to increase, with students citing affordability and convenience as some of the top reasons they are choosing online rather than traditional campus.

Compared to a decade ago, online education is seen as just as quality and “legit” as a normal, on-campus, four-year program.

Given the complex times we are going through right now, learning online is undoubtedly going to become an even more appealing prospect for students in the future. Considering people of all ages are definitely more savvy on the Internet these days, modern technology is only allowing many more dreams to come true everyday.

Online learning helps students increase knowledge retention by 25% to 60%

Online learning is obviously a very visual medium, so if you’re more of a visually-oriented student, you will have a higher chance of actually remembering and learning information. (No boring in-person lecture to sit through!) When you study online, you will be working with lots of different mediums, including slide presentations, videos, infographics and at MI, instrument practice.

Distance Learning is available 24/7

If you really don’t feel like waking up at 8:00 a.m. for a class, you don’t need to! Maybe online courses have their materials available at all times, so you can do your coursework at your own pace. If you’re a morning person or a night owl, there will be something that works for you.

More students are choosing to do their education online

In 2015, 49% of students had taken an online course in the past year and this number has only continued to go up! This means that by enrolling in an online degree, you are joining the most expanding group of students in the entire globe.

Online education is on average far more affordable than campus

Some of the factors include: no commuting costs, and sometimes required course materials, such as textbooks, are available online at no cost. At MI, our MI Online programs are 18% cheaper than our campus programs, because online does not include use of our facilities.

Online learning is a means to help career advancement

In a 2017 trends reports, 68% of online students considered themselves professionals. In the report, 36 percent considered themselves “industry switchers” hoping to move from one career field to another, while the remaining 34 percent are “career accelerators,” or working professionals who want to advance their current career. This gives students the option to work before, after or during current jobs, in a schedule that works for them.

At Musicians Institute, our students have always done things their own way, which has always made this school of contemporary music so unique. In that spirit, the newly launched MI Online program promises to be a great option for musicians looking to expand their skills and really kick off their career in music.

If learning from music from your bedroom sounds ideal, we invite you to visit our MI Online program page and email [email protected] for more information. Do music education your way.
