Argentine songwriter Claudia Brant has enjoyed an incredible career in the Latin music world, penning hits for some of the biggest names in Latin music, including Jennifer Lopez, Camila Cabello, Ricky Martin, Demi Lovato and more!

Her influence also reaches beyond the Latin world, as she’s worked alongside artists like Bruno Mars, David Foster and the incomparable Diane Warren, to name just a few.

Having a few Grammys (and Latin Grammys) under her belt, Brant has devoted years of hard work to her craft, and she’s got some advice and insight that only a few have in the business. MI will be hosting a songwriting master class with Claudia Brant on March 2 at 6:00 pm (in Room MI-335), but before her event, she answered a few quick questions with The Mix. Do you want to hear more from her? Don’t miss the master class!

How do you normally prepare for a writing session?

I usually work with artists only, so I do my research on them first, then I listen to their previous material and watch interviews they did. That way, I could get a wider idea of where they come from and what their taste in music is. I also discuss with their A&R and management team, on what direction we should take.

Best advice you can give to MI students with songwriting aspirations?

Write songs every day. Collaborate with other people. Have good work ethic.

Is there a song you love and wish you had written? Why?

There are many, because they still move me after 40 years straight of listening to them.

What do you still wish to accomplish in your career?

I would like to do more theme songs for film and TV. And collaborate with some singer/songwriters that I admire. Also, develop an artist that blows me away!
