Marvin Gaye was a staple of the Motown era and he continues to be an icon for the hits that he lent to popular culture. Although his life came to a devastating end on April 1, 1984, today, April 2, is the day to celebrate his birthday and the joy that Gaye’s music has brought to millions around the world.
Gaye is consistently regarded as one of the greatest soul and R&B singers of all time, and his seemingly endless list of iconic songs are still inspiring music and young artists today. (Ahem, Robin Thicke and Pharrell.)
In 1987, Gaye was posthumously inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall Of Fame in 2016.
