MI SUCCESS STORY: STEVE PURCELL

Steve Purcell grew up in a very musical family, noting “there were always instruments around and music playing. In 1988, he moved to Los Angeles to enroll in G.I.T. (the Guitar Institute of Technology). As for his reasons for coming to MI,

“I really liked the idea of getting 4 years worth of music studies condensed into one year. Also, a couple of my favorite guitarists had studied there (Paul Gilbert) & I loved the fact that it was in Los Angeles, CA…It was a no-brainer for me.”

As a Performer, he plays with the Ron Keel Band fronted by Ron Keel (Steeler,KEEL, Black Sabbath), who has had record sales of over three million. He’s performed shows with Paul Stanley (Kiss), Jack Blades (Night Ranger), Don Dokken (Dokken), Stephen Pearcy (Ratt), Kip Winger (Winger), Mark Slaughter (Slaughter), Dave Ellefson (Megadeth), & many more.

For years, as a professional guitar & session player based out of Nashville,TN. he’s been on the road in the bands of many major & indie label country, rock, & blues artists.

Steve shares some of the important things he learned at MI and how he still uses them in his professional career now,

“I learned tons of stuff that I still use to this day…Not just music theory, but how to play with other musicians…I remember a drum seminar with Ralph Humphrey that was so inspiring it made me go home & practice my guitar. It was a great experience. I want to do it again.”
