On May 24, Ryan J. Downey came to Musicians Institute for a special Conversation Series with Zakk Wylde, guitarist of Black Label Society and Ozzy Osbourne.
The conversation spanned pretty wild moments in Wylde’s career, like when a drunk fan actually chewed through one of his guitar cables during a gig. Weird. One surprising tidbit was his super fan moment over meeting Elton John, which was orchestrated by none other than Sharon Osbourne.
Wylde’s wild stories (pun intended) kept the crowd laughing, and he also had some more serious moments, like talking about Ozzy’s songwriting genius.
He told Downey, “The first thing he sings is always it. He never usually sings something and goes back and he’s like, ‘I’m not happy with that.’ 99, 98 percent of the time, the first melodies the comes up with are crushing.”
