Music has always been an important and beloved part of filmmaking, and this particular collaboration is celebrated every year at the Oscars with the Best Original Song an Best Original Score nominations. Students in MI’s Composition for Visual Media program come to our school to train on how to most effectively use music and scores to bring film, television, video games, and much more to life, so we always celebrate these moments as well.

A few weeks ago, the 2019 Best Original Song nominees were announced and it included songs from other nominated films like Black Panther, A Star Is Born, and The Return of Mary Poppins. And another exciting turn of events, The Academy announced that Queen and Adam Lambert will be performing on the Oscars stage as a tribute to the highly nominated Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody.

After a previous announcement to cancel most of the Best Original Song performances, The Academy was criticized and quickly re-added all of them. Hmm, seems like music in film is actually really important, right?

Look below for the list of the 2019 Best Original Song Oscar nominations, and catch all of the live performances on Sunday, February 24th.
