On August 12, Musicians Institute headed down to Long Beach to partner up with iHeart Radio and ALT 98.7 for some summer festival fun with our very own MI sponsored booth! Festival goers were able to come the tent to grab some swag and enter for a chance to win tickets for a special Death Cab for Cutie show happening later this week at iHeart Radio Theatre.

The line-up was pretty diverse, mixing in a bit of indie rock, electronic music, folk, DJ sets and more:

ALT 98.7’s Summer Camp Lineup

While people were busy hanging at the MI tent, some of us went to take a look around the Queen Mary Events Park, scoping out the stage area.

We caught the set by Jungle, an English soul collective whose music has been described as “midtempo 1970s-style fun,” and their fun songs and enthusiastic, dancing crowd definitely fit the bill. If you haven’t checked them out yet, we recommend you check out their newest song “Heavy, California” and add them to your playlists now!

After some amazing sets by Sir Sly, AJR, Judah and the Lion and Chvrches, we waited to get some spots for Death Cab For Cutie, the indie rock legends who just released their latest album, Thank You For Today. For all of the OG Indie rock fans, this was the place to be, and the band delivered with new songs and many throwbacks to their iconic albums, especially songs from Transatlanticism and Plans.

Last but not least, the electronic music duo ODESZA closed the night with a set full of live drummers, singers, a brass section, and plenty of amazing visuals to match.
