A practical application of digital recording techniques using Ableton Live, this course provides an overview for songwriters and artists on the fundamentals of the recording process, including file and session setup, tracking, arranging, editing, and mixing. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to compose, record, and produce music using Ableton Live.

Introduction to Ableton Live and what can do. Students will learn some of the basic concepts of Ableton Live and identify the various sections of the program and using audio clips to sequence Live in real-time.

  • Identify the main sections and interface components of Ableton Live.
  • Understand basic concepts such as tracks, clips, the Session View, and the Arrangement View.
  • Import, organize, and manipulate audio clips within a Live set.
  • Sequence audio clips in real time using the Session View.
  • Perform basic editing and navigation tasks to create simple musical ideas.
