Schecter Synyster Gates Guitar Scholarship:

Musicians Institute and Schecter Guitar Research have created the Schecter Synyster Gates Guitar Scholarship to assist advanced Heavy Rock and Metal guitarists with their educational development. The scholarship was also created to honor the career of MI alumnus Synyster Gates, and will be awarded in Fall 2016 to an advanced student (U.S. or non-U.S. citizens) enrolling in the Associate of Arts in Performance (Guitar) program who demonstrates overall outstanding musicianship, passion for the instrument and the potential for developing their own individual sound or unique voice on the instrument in the Heavy Rock or Metal genres.

Award:

  • $2,500.00 tuition credit ($1,250 per quarter, for the first two quarters of the program). One new Schecter Synyster Gates guitar.

Schecter Synyster Gates Guitar Scholarship Application


Schecter Jerry Horton Guitar Scholarship:

Musicians Institute and Schecter Guitar Research have created the Schecter Jerry Horton Guitar Scholarship to assist advanced, original band-oriented Rock guitarists with their educational development. The scholarship will be awarded in Fall 2016 to an advanced student (U.S. or non-U.S. citizens) enrolling in the Associate of Arts in Performance (Guitar) program who demonstrates overall outstanding musicianship, passion for the instrument and the potential for developing their own original band-oriented music in the Rock genre.

Award:

  • $2,500.00 tuition credit ($1,250 per quarter, for the first two quarters of the program).
  • One new Schecter Jerry Horton guitar.

  • Newly enrolling (AA) Guitar Performance Program students only
  • Open to US citizen and non-US citizens

Seymour Duncan Guitar Scholarship:

The Seymour Duncan Guitar Scholarship was created to honor innovative music legend Seymour Duncan and will be awarded in Fall 2016 to an intermediate or advanced student (U.S. or non-U.S. citizens) enrolling in the Associate of Arts in Performance (Guitar) program who demonstrates overall outstanding musicianship, passion for the instrument and the potential for developing their own individual sound or unique voice on the instrument in any style or genre. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need.

Award:

  • $2,000.00 tuition credit ($1,000 per quarter, for the first two quarters of the program)

D’Addario Guitar Scholarship:

The D’Addario Guitar Scholarship will be awarded in Fall 2016 to an advanced student (U.S. or non-U.S. citizens) enrolling in the Associate of Arts in Performance (Guitar) Program who demonstrates overall outstanding musicianship and stylistic diversity.

Award:
• $1,500.00 tuition credit (for the first quarter of the program)

The Melodic Soloing Scholarship was created to recognize and support the creative skills, talent, tone and taste required to play improvised melodic guitar solos in any style. The scholarship is generously funded by a MI Guitar Program alumnus (GIT class of 1980); and is provided to encourage and support the educational growth of a newly enrolling AA Guitar Program student.

Award:

  • $1,500.00 tuition credit

Al Bruno Memorial Country Guitar Scholarship:

The Al Bruno Memorial Country Guitar Scholarship, was created to honor the legacy and career of Country great Al Bruno (MI’s first Country Guitar instructor). The scholarship will be awarded to assist newly enrolling AA Guitar Program students, who demonstrate proficiency in the Country, Pop/Country or Bluegrass genres.

Universal Citywalk Hollywood Vocal Scholarship:

The Universal Citywalk Hollywood Vocal Scholarship was created to recognize and support students (US or non-US citizens) enrolling in the Associate of Arts in Performance (Vocal) program who demonstrate excellence in both vocal and live performance skills (in any genre).

The scholarship is applicable for students enrolled in the AA Vocal performance program only, and may not be transferred to “nonperformance, industry program” emphases (Audio Engineering, Music Business, Independent Artist, Guitar Craft) within an AA degree.

The W. Crane Guy Memorial Vocal Scholarship was created to honor the memory, multiple talents and artistic career of MI alumnus W. Crane Guy (class of 2010); and will be awarded in fall 2016 to students (US or non-US citizens) enrolling in the Associate of Arts in Performance (Vocal) program who demonstrate overall outstanding musicianship, and the potential for developing their own unique voice in any style.

Award:

  • $2,000.00 tuition credit ($1,000 per quarter for the first two consecutive quarters of the program)

George Duke Keyboard Scholarship:

The George Duke Keyboard Scholarship is generously funded by Rich Buchanan and James Chesser on behalf of the Stanley Clarke Foundation; and has been created to honor the exceptional talents and artistic career of the legendary George Duke.

The scholarship will be awarded to students who demonstrate overall outstanding musicianship and “groove” in any of the following genres: R∓B, Funk, Jazz or Pop.

The scholarship details and criteria are as follows:

  • $2,000.00 tuition credit ($1,000 per quarter for the first two consecutive quarters of the program)

Audio Engineering Scholarships

Hosa Technology Audio Engineering Scholarship:

The Hosa Technology Audio Engineering Program Scholarship is provided to encourage and support the educational growth of a newly enrolling Audio Engineering Program student. The scholarship will be awarded in Fall 2016 to a new student enrolling in the MI Audio
Engineering Program who clearly articulates their career goals in the music industry, as well as why they should be considered for the scholarship in a 500 word essay. The scholarship details and criteria are as follows:

  • $1,000.00 tuition credit and a Hosa CBT-500 Cable Tester.

Development Scholarships are provided to encourage the educational growth of new students enrolled in a degree or certificate program. A minimum of twenty Development Scholarships are awarded each year.

The scholarship is applicable for students enrolled in instrumental performance programs and composition only, and may not be transferred to a non-performance program emphases (Audio Engineering, Music Business, Independent Artist, Guitar Craft, or Film) within an AA or Bachelor degree.

  • $1,000 per quarter for standard length of program

International Musicians Merit Scholarship

International Musicians Merit Scholarships are available to new students enrolling in the Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Composition, Associate of Arts, or Certificate in Performance Programs. The scholarship is applicable for students enrolled in instrumental performance programs and composition only, and may not be transferred to a non-performance program emphases (Audio Engineering, Music Business, Independent Artist, Guitar Craft, or Film) within an AA or Bachelor degree.

Award:

  • $1,000 per quarter for standard length of program

Eligibility and Conditions:

  • New instrumental student in performance program only enrolling in the Bachelor of Music, Associate of Arts, or Certificate in Performance Program

International Musicians Merit Scholarship Application


MI Alumni Scholarship

MI Alumni Scholarships are available to all students who have previously attended MI, have graduated or completed their course of study, and are enrolling in another program.

Awards vary. Please refer to application form for award amounts by program.

Scholarship maximum amounts will be awarded only for the regular duration of the program as follows:

  • Industry Certificates (2 quarters) – $500/Qtr = $1,000
  • Performance Certificates (4 quarters) – $500/Qtr = $2,000
  • Associate Degrees (6 quarters) – $500/Qtr = $3,000
  • Bachelor Degrees (12 quarters) – $500/Qtr = $6,000
  • Additional quarters may be awarded for approved emphasis.

Eligibility and Conditions:

  • Scholarship applicants must have previously completed an MI Program or Degree.
  • Applicants must be enrolling in another Musicians Institute Certificate or Degree program (MI Select is not eligible).
  • International students and U.S. Citizens
  • Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA
  • This scholarship cannot be combined with any other scholarships offered at MI

MI Alumni Scholarship Application


Hardship Scholarship

The MI Hardship Scholarship is awarded to qualified applicants who are currently enrolled in MI Certificate, AA Degree, or BM Degree programs and is based on verifiable financial need, current academic standing, and essay submission.

Award:

  • Tuition credit based on current quarter balance (maximum $1,500).

Eligibility and Conditions:

  • Enrolled currently in any MI Certificate, AA Degree, or BM Degree program
  • Must have verifiable financial need

Hardship Scholarship Application
