Roney Giah Wins John Lennon Songwriting Contest Award

|    Jan 21, 2009

Roney Giah (Guitar) was awarded Honorable Mention in the World category of the 2008 John Lennon Songwriting Contest for the song ”Amar com E” from his second CD, More Days on Earth. Also this year, the Brazilian artist signed a record deal with British label Astranova Records for the release of Yesterday´s Tomorrow. The compilation CD  includes tracks from Roney’s previous recordings, including seven from Seed (Semente;1998), six tracks from More days on Earth (Mais dias na Terra; 2006), one teaser track from the upcoming Na mira do coice (2009), and a bonus track exclusively produced for the compilation.

Roney’s songs "Amar Com E" and "A Chuva" were previously selected for Garageband.com’s Track of the Day, and his composition “Translate the World” was featured on the soundtrack of the American film production No Pain, No Gain. His CD More Days on Earth was pre-selected for both the 2006 Brazilian TIM Award, and 2006 Latin Grammy, and Giah’s 1998 mostly instrumental debut album Semente was nominated for Brazil’s 1998 Sharp Award. As a guitarist, he was a finalist for Brazil’s 1998 Visa Instrumental Award and won second place at the Berklee-Souza Lima Festival in his hometown, São Paulo.
