Marcel Wittfield Develops Indie Artists at Eagle Rock Records

|    Jul 01, 2010

Marcel Wittfeld (Guitar ‘95) is owner and producer for Eagle Rock Records, an independent label and production company dedicated to creating opportunities for independent artists. An offshoot, the Los Angeles Recording Experience, is a consortium of Los Angeles-based music producers that provides the chance for unsigned musicians, regardless of style or level of popularity, to produce their own albums and immerse themselves in the California music scene. Eagle Rock Records also produces live recordings of Los Angeles-based bands that are streamed from the website (Eagle Rock Live).

In 1994, Marcel left an already-successful career in his native Germany to attend MI.  After graduation, he felt confident enough to turn down a contract offer from Steve Vai’s fledgling Favored Nations label in favor of pursuing his own vision. He soon established himself as a freelance producer and guitarist, working with artists such as Keb’ Mo and Jennifer Lopez.

After nine years of planning and construction, Marcel opened Eagle Rock Studios in 2006. Boasting a state-of-the-art recording studio and a live performance room for small showcases, the studio has hosted artists such as Chad Wright (Chaka Khan), MI grad/Pink guitarist Rafael Moreira, Wayne Brady, Steve Bays (Hot Hot Heat), Oblique and Stereo Chemix.

On top of everything else Marcel still finds time to give private lessons, with students including international competition winner Tim Callobre and teen star Miranda Cosgrove (School of Rock, iCarly).

Find out more about Marcel’s many successful projects at his website.

“More and more of the auditions I’m having for recording artists are turning out to be MI class reunions. The graduates of MI have been dominating the new, young music scene in LA”.
