Jeff and Scot Bihlman (GIT/PIT '89)

|    Jan 01, 2005

Since graduating simultaneously from MI, brothers Scot (PIT) and Jeff (GIT) Bihlman (pictured L-R) have gone on to form the highly successful Chicago-based independent blues/rock band The Bihlman Bros. and start their own label, Steelhead Records. Their albums Sweet Tooth and Day by Day were produced by multi-Grammy award-winning Memphis producer Jim Gaines (Santana, Journey, SRV). The Bros. have toured extensively in the US and Europe including France, Italy, Portugal and Spain. They have recorded with Trey Anastasio (Phish) and Son Seals on the WC Handy award-winning Telarc release Lettin' Go and have appeared with BB King, Ray Charles, ZZ Top, Jeff Healey, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shephard and Buddy Guy at clubs, arenas and festivals worldwide. They've even played The White House! Through their publishing deals with Essential Music, the Bros. can be heard on the soap Days of our Lives, TV/radio commercials and award winning documentary films. Their new CD American Son is currently enjoying radio rotation and critical acclaim.

Reflecting on his experience as a GIT student, Jeff recalls, "MI was the first time in my life I was able to focus on nothing but music 24/7. The singularity of purpose is so liberating you can't help but be inspired, and being constantly surrounded by the greatest musicians in the world, present and future, raises your own personal bar line and challenges your standards of excellence. MI also taught me that musical versatility could be my most valuable asset. They teach and preach the complete package from being a great musician to marketing yourself to being a smart businessperson. In today's music industry, it's not enough to be a great player—you have to be versatile, know how to properly market yourself and capitalize on every opportunity. MI teaches you how to do it all. And there's an espresso bar too!"

“More and more of the auditions I’m having for recording artists are turning out to be MI class reunions. The graduates of MI have been dominating the new, young music scene in LA”.
