Antonio Sanchez PIT Clinic
Oct 07, 2003
On Tuesday, October 7, PIT hosted a clinic with Antonio Sanchez, one of the top drummers in contemporary jazz. Born and raised in Mexico, Sanchez studied at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City before earning a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. While working toward his Master’s at the New England Conservatory of Music, Antonio was also actively working as a drummer, landing gigs with Dizzy Gillespie’s United Nation Orchestra and the Danilo Perez Trio. While performing with the trio, Antonio attracted the attention of Pat Metheny, who hired him to tour and record the Grammy-winning Speaking of Now. Antonio’s combination of outstanding skills and depth of education make him one of the most in-demand drum clinicians today. At the clinic, Antonio demonstrated his incredible technique and comprehensive knowledge of jazz and Latin styles, highlighted by an impromptu performance with guitarist Rafael Moreira (GIT alum currently touring with Pink) and bassist Brian Allen (BIT alum/Greg Adams Band).
