Guitar Institute of Technology Department Head Beth Marlis has announced some additions to the GIT fall clinic/open counseling schedule:
October 8, 2:00-3:30: Joe Beck-Ali Ryerson Duo This high-octane New York jazz duo will be demonstrating how the guitar functions in the wide-open harmonic and rhythmic space of a duo format. Joe Beck (Miles Davis, Gil Evans, Duke Ellington and many others) will be playing ALTO guitar, and Ali Ryerson (Billy Taylor, Luciano Pavarotti, Stephane Grappelli) will be playing Alto Flute. This clinic will be about creative improvisation, how to really listen and develop your musical artistry. October 16 1-5PM: Michael Ward The Grammy-Award-winning guitarist will hold an intimate Open Counseling session for GIT students. Since his days attending and teaching at GIT, Mike has been recording and touring with an outstanding array of artists including School of Fish, John Hiatt, The Wallflowers, Gavin Degraw and John Doe. October 28, 4:00-5:30: Joe Diorio with Pino Marrone Master jazz guitarist and GIT founding father Joe Diorio returns for a rare clinic appearance accompanied by South American guitarist (and former GIT instructor) Pino Marrone. Joe’s groundbreaking guitar style grew from Bop roots into a unique, hypnotic blend of intervallic leaps and melodic passion. Also a master teacher, in this clinic Joe’s focus will be on creative approaches to performing in a guitar duo. November 20 (NOTE DATE CHANGE; time TBA): Leo Nocentelli Band Throughout the ‘60s and ‘70s, the Meters were the premier instrumental combo in New Orleans, and Leo Nocentelli’s ultra-funky guitar style sparked the rhythm section on such R&B classics as “Cissy Strut” and “Fire on the Bayou”.
