The Big Gig and How to Get It

|    Jun 09, 2003

Beginning with the Summer 2003 quarter, noted music industry matchmaker Barry Squire is bringing his unique insider's perspective on how to network and audition for high-level musical gigs to MI students through the new Audition Workshop elective.

Squire, a former A&R executive, has in recent years become known throughout the industry as the "go-to guy" for established bands seeking musicians. With a talent roster including Jane's Addiction, Guns & Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Limp Bizkit, Macy Gray, Michelle Branch and literally dozens of other top-name acts, he understands the audition process better than virtually anyone in the business.

Through Audition Workshop, MI students are able to learn first-hand the protocol of networking and preparing for big auditions. Available to students of all instrument programs- guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and vocals- the Audition Workshop educates students about what to do before, during and after "the call".
