Sound Four: Jazz from Kazakhstan
Jan 28, 2004

On Wednesday, January 28, MI presents Sound Four, a jazz quartet from Kazakhstan, in concert at MI’s Passage performance center at 7:00PM (open to the public). The group is on their first American tour, including an appearance at the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) annual convention in New York.
Sound Four’s appearance represents the latest in a series of visits to MI by musicians from the central Asian republic of Kazakhstan. Recently, the National Academy of Music entered new quarters in the brand-new capital city of Astana, an event marked by an increase in jazz-related exchanges between Kazakhstan and the U.S. Upcoming visits to MI include a concert by the Academy’s Rector, internationally renowned violinist Aiman Musakhodzhayeva (February 12) and the “Young Virtuosos”, a group of outstanding young musicians playing both traditional and modern instruments (March 29).
