Sound Effects Clinic with Bill Devine

|    Feb 06, 2009

On Friday, February 6th at 1:00pm MI presents a special Sound Effects Clinic with mixer/sound designer Bill Devine. Digital workflow has led to complex sound design challenges.  How does one begin to create and manage a 100+ track session? The clinic will discuss this and a variety of related topics including spotting sessions, building the sound FX track, using SFX libraries, recording sound FX, Foley, sound design vs FX edit, and mixing. Mr. Devine will present several real-world FX sessions and peel away the layers of the final mix.

Bill Devine earned his B.A. in Broadcasting from San Francisco State University.  He currently works as a re-recording mixer and sound designer for Warner Bros., Nickelodeon, Salami Post, Oracle Post, and MaxPost.  His sound work spans film and television as well as animation and music.  Bill also teaches production sound and ADR at the Art Institute of California.  Recent projects include sound effects mixing for Scooby Doo and the Samurai Sword, mixing the Twist the Throttle series for Discovery Channel, and original recording for Warner Bros. new Batman animated series.  Bill is a member of the Motion Picture Editor's Guild.

The clinic, which will be held in MI’s THX-Certified Dubbing Stage, is open to the public by reservation only. Space is extremely limited and reservations will be handled in the order received; to reserve a spot, email ritadmin@mi.edu with “Sound FX Clinic” in the subject line.
