Sheila E. to be Keynote Speaker at March MI Graduation

Musicians Institute is proud to announce that Sheila Escovedo, known to the world as Sheila E., will serve as keynote speaker for the spring 2010 graduation ceremony taking place on Saturday, March 20 at LA’s classic Wiltern Theater. Ms.Escovedo will also be awarded an honorary doctorate by Musicians Institute.

Sheila Escovedo picked up the drumsticks and started making music at the age of three while watching her legendary father, percussionist Pete Escovedo, in rehearsal.  Two years later, she delivered her first solo performance to a live audience, and before the age of 20 she was performing and/or recording with such heavyweight musical influences as George Duke, Herbie Hancock, Billy Cobham as well as countless popular artists including Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, Gloria Estefan, Babyface, Patti LaBelle, and Steve Nicks, among others.

In the ‘80s, with encouragement from her friend Prince, Sheila stepped to the front of the stage and into pop stardom releasing such hits worldwide hits as “The Glamorous Life” and “Love Bizarre” as well as contributions to other Prince-related projects. Outstanding career moments have also included the “We Are the World” session and a live Academy Award performance with operatic superstar Placido Domingo.

In recent years, she has served as musical director for the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce', and Prince and her producing and arranging talents have been showcased on the Latin Grammy Awards, Summer Olympics, WOW Awards, ALMA’s, and the Image Awards.
