New Guitar Craft Instructor: Kathy Wingert

MI's Guitar Craft Academy welcomes new instructor Kathy Wingert to the program, where she is sharing her extensive background with students in the new Acoustic Guitar Design emphasis.

Kathy brings an ideal combination of passion, expertise, and experience to her role as a guitar-making instructor. Soon after she began designing guitars in the mid-90s, Ms. Wingert attended a guitar-making class at Orange Coast College where she studied the techniques of renowned classical builder Bob Mattingly. The same year, she began an apprenticeship with violin maker Jon Peterson at the World of Strings in Long Beach, California. By 2001, a growing client waiting list led her to establish her own shop, where she builds custom instruments for discerning customers who appreciate her passion for the beauty of the guitar coupled with skill in finding each guitar’s individual voice. The bulk of Kathy's work has been in creating steel-string acoustic guitars for fingerstyle play, with harp guitars, nylon stringed guitars, bouzoukis, ukuleles, classical guitars and occasional electric guitars rounding out the list. In the Guitar Craft program, along with detailed knowledge of the art and craft of guitar-making, Kathy is passing on her addicti.... er, passion to students.
