MI Presents Funkmaster George Clinton!

|    Feb 03, 2005

On Thursday, February 3, Musicians Institute, Underground Music Direct, Relief International and Fusicology (www.fusicology.com) proudly present George Clinton and The New Stars in concert at the Henry Fonda Music Box Theater (6126 Hollywood Boulevard, just east of Vine). Co-sponsor Relief International (www.ri.org) will be accepting donations for tsunami victims.
George Clinton, the mastermind behind both Parliament & Funkadelic, is widely recognized as the single most influential figure in the history of funk. Clinton comes to the Henry Fonda Theatre for his only scheduled LA peformance with the latest version of the P-Funk All-Stars, "The New Stars." The man that needs no introduction is back with a whole new band of players jamming out new sounds, performing new music and pumping out the old Parliament classics. LA-based New Found Nation will be backing George and his New Pfunk Stars Kim Manning, Kendra Foster and Sativa Clinton. These ladies are the next generation of funkateers and they are ready to step to the forefront of the Pfunk family and carry on George’s funky legacy.
Appearing with Clinton are a veritable all-star funk federation:
The Circle: Hollywood’s hottest underground band performing a indefinable funk/soul sound with a full band, scratch DJ, and conga drummer lead by the satin voiced Richard Stites. With recent shows at Qtopia and the Whiskey a Go Go, this band is primed to make some big noise in 2005 with their upcoming debut album Hollywood Playhouse www.myspace.com/thecircle
Icon Underground: progressive rock electronica band straight out of LA. They are featured on DJ Irene’s new album Rockstar which is getting spins from underground DJs all over the nation . Perhaps Icon Underground's greatest talent is its live show, utilizing all kinds of visual and audio stimuli creating a trance-like delectable dream environment. Check out their site and hear for yourself…
Burning Star: These gods of the hip-hop underground have come up big this year, performing recently with Blackalicious, The Black Eyed Peas, and last December here in Los Angeles with Kanye West. Burning Star bring a full instrumental band/hip-hop experience ala The Roots with a West Coast flavor all their own. www.burningstarmusic.com
DJ Raphiki: This Power 106 DJ from Compton brings refined talent to the turntables and is heating up a fan base on the air waves to rival Filly Fel’s.
Tickets for the show are available to the general public for $25 at www.ticketweb.com. Doors open at 9pm
