MI Grad Jamie Meyer Performs at Grammy U Open Mic

MI Hosts GrammyU Debut Open Mic Night

|    Mar 03, 2010

On Wednesday, February 24, MI hosted the first-ever GrammyU Open Mic Night in the Passage Performance Center.

GrammyU was established by the Recording Academy (best known for the GRAMMY Awards) for the purpose of helping prepare college students for careers in the music industry. The organization creates networking opportunities, educational programs and performance events such as the Open Mic Night.

Wednesday’s event was kicked off with a strong solo acoustic set by MI grad Jamie Meyer before a packed house. Voted 2008 Singer/Songwriter of the Year by the LA Music Awards, Meyer is currently attending Cal State Los Angeles. He was followed on stage by Cameron Ernst (USC), Amanda Holmes (USC), Ellie McNeil (MI) and Jarell Perry (UCLA)

Providing the performers with constructive critique was an A-list panel of GrammyU judges including Michael Bearden (Musical Director, Keyboardist, Composer, Producer, Arranger, Conductor), Jeff Greenberg (Owner and CEO of the Village Recorder), Jody Watley (GRAMMY-Winning Singer-Songwriter, Producer), Gavin Lurssen (Multi-GRAMMY winning mastering engineer), Shawn Amos (VP of A&R at Shout! Factory, Rhino Entertainment).

MI has been collaborating with GrammyU since early 2009 to help expand membership among MI students, and the Open Mic Night was the first of what is planned to be a series of co-sponsored events. Special thanks to MI’s own GrammyU student representative, Faith Jeon, for her outstanding organizing efforts.

To join GrammyU, go to www.grammy.com/join and select student membership option "Los Angles Chapter."
