MI Expands Recording Facilities
| Apr 08, 2005
The Spring '05 quarter marks another expansion in MI's growing recording facilities. The increasing sophistication and availability of digital recording tools has led to an explosion in student demand for all levels of training in the recording arts. From the DIY approach to top-of-the-line professional production, MI is expanding classes and facilities to match. First up, RIT recently added a Digidesign Icon mixing console (pictured) to its 5.1 surround room, Studio B. Found in only a handful of studios, the Icon represents the latest generation of integrated control surfaces, providing a perfect match for Studio B's Pro Tools HD 3 digital recording system. Coupled with Blue Sky monitors, the room is truly a sight to behold (and hear). Studio D is a new addition to the RIT facilities, featuring an 8-channel, full-function 4000G+ series "Baby SSL" console in a room designed for high-end dubbing and mixing in a compact space. RIT has also added a new digital audio classroom with ten Mac-based workstations, and another project studio is on the way Meanwhile, MI's instrument programs are joining the trend with the recent addition of guitar, bass, guitar, vocal and drum-specific project studios. Each is focused on training students to record their respective instruments, upping both professional and creative skill levels.
