Jeremy Hicks-Kachik Awarded ESP Guitar Scholarship

|    Apr 17, 2009

ESP Guitars joins with MI’s Guitar Institute of Technology to congratulate this year’s ESP Guitar Scholarship winner: Jeremy Hicks-Kachik. Hailing from Bel Air, Maryland, Jeremy is entering the Associate of Arts in Performance (Guitar) program.

“I’ve played a lot of metal, classic rock, and classical,” says Hicks-Kachik. “I came to GIT to focus on everything I’m not good at. I’m working on playing country. I just bought a Real Book. I’m trying to improve the most I can, get a band together, and go on to make a living doing this.”

In addition to a tuition award, Jeremy received a brand new, flametop-maple ESP Horizon-series electric guitar, which was presented by MI Vice President of Education Beth Marlis and GIT Director Jude Gold during MI’s Spring Orientation ceremony (see photo: Marlis (L), Hicks-Kachik (Center), Gold (R))

Each spring, the ESP Guitar Scholarship is awarded to a new student enrolling in the AA (Guitar) program. Winners are chosen based on stylistic versatility, musicality, and technical ability. (See MI’s website for details on how to apply for this and other scholarships.)

ESP was launched by MI president Hisatake Shibuya in 1975, and has been manufacturing custom electric and acoustic guitars ever since. ESP has built instruments for everyone from Dave Mustaine (Megadeth), Adam Darski (Behemoth), Alexi Laiho and Roope Latvala  (Children of Bodom), Dan Jacobs and Travis Miguel (Atreyu), Galder and Silenoz (Dimmu Borgir), and James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett (Metallica)  to Ron Wood (the Rolling Stones), Vernon Reid (Living Colour), and Page Hamilton (Helmet).
