Jay Chattaway Seminar: Composing for Television

On Tuesday June 2, from 4-6 PM in Highland 120, Emmy award-winning composer Jay Chattaway will conduct a seminar on "Composing for Television" sponsored by MI’s Bachelor Program.  During the seminar, Chattaway will describe the complete process of scoring a Star Trek episode for fifty-piece orchestra, starting with the original spotting session and going through the composing process, the recording session at Paramount, and final editing and laying to picture.

Jay Chattaway has received nine Emmy nominations for his work in television, including the hit Star Trek series. He is also the producer of many Grammy-winning music projects and has worked with artists as diverse as  Carly Simon, Bob James, Maynard Ferguson, Gato Barbieri, David Byrne, The Talking Heads, The Fania All-Stars , Herb Alpert and many others. In addition to his television work, Jay has composed the scores for over thirty feature films, served as Director of A&R for CBS Records, and has been the President of the Society of Composers and Lyricists and Governor of the Academy of Television of Arts and Sciences.

Space for this event is limited and attendance (limited to currently enrolled MI students only) is on a first come-first served basis.
