MI Presents Dickies, Blasters In Concert at Knitting Factory
| May 08, 2009
On Friday, May 8, MI presents a special Alumni Night double bill at Hollywood’s Knitting Factory featuring two influential Los Angeles bands: The Dickies and The Blasters. The lineups for both bands include MI grads – for the Blasters, guitarist Keith Wyatt, and for the Dickies, drummer Travis Johnson and bassist Greg Hanna.Like MI, both bands emerged from the energetic Los Angeles music scene of the late 1970s. The Dickies brought uniquely Southern California perspective and sense of humor to the punk movement with songs like “I’m Stuck in a Pagoda with Tricia Toyota” and “Banana Splits (Tra La La Song)” as well as blistering covers of rock classics like “Knights in White Satin” and “Paranoid.” The Blasters, regarded as godfathers of today’s roots/rockabilly culture, wove multiple threads of Americana into songs like “Marie, Marie,” “American Music,” “Border Radio,” and “I’m Shakin’.” Both bands continue to record and tour internationally.Tickets for the show are $10.00 at the door for MI students with ID or purchased in advance at MI’s Player’s Supply Store; general public tickets are $15.00 at the door or through www.ticketweb.com. .
