Guitar Player Magazine Looks to MI in Search for Next Guitar Superstar
| May 31, 2010
On the hunt for future guitar heroes, Guitar Player Magazine has reached out tothe Guitar Program at MI (GIT) to help it find exciting players from the next generation of guitar virtuosi. Those players will be invited to enter the fifth annual Guitar Player’s Guitar Superstar competition. The event features ten undiscovered guitarists competing for the title of Guitar Player's Guitar Superstar. For 2010, Guitar Player is waiving the $25.00 entry fee for a dozen or more GIT students.Often described as “American Idol for guitarists,” Guitar Superstar features a panel of celebrity judges, which, in past years has included everyone from Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Richie Kotzen, and Steve Lukather to George Lynch, Jennifer Batten (Michael Jackson, Jeff Beck), Rafael Moreira (CBS Rock Star, Christina Aguilera), and Elliot Easton (the Cars). Hosts have included Greg Kihn, Brendon Small (Dethklok), and Andy Summers (Police). The ten finalists each perform and then are critiqued by the judging panel. This year, the grand prize is more fabulous than ever before: gear from Mesa/Boogie and other sponsors, a feature story in Guitar Player, a recording contract with Guitar Player Records (distributed by MI5/EMI), and, perhaps best of all, bragging rights for earning the title of Guitar Player’s Guitar Superstar 2010.To enter, guitarists must post a video of themselves playing an original instrumental composition. Entries will be accepted from across the nation. The ten most compelling videos will earn a free trip to the San Francisco Bay Area to perform in the contest on September 18, 2010, at the Bankhead Theater in Livermore, California. MI students who are interested in entering for free should immediately visit or contact Artist & Career Services to take advantage of the limited number of free entry codes supplied by Guitar Player magazine.
