The May 2006 issue of Guitar Player Magazine features an extended "Master Class" article drawn from a week-long visit that editor Andy Ellis recently paid to the school. In the piece, Andy describes and notates examples drawn from private lessons and open counseling sessions with GIT instructors Dan Gilbert, Scott Henderson, and Ross Bolton, with additional ideas drawn from a seminar by visiting bebop master Jimmy Bruno. "MI is an intense, fast-paced learning environment," states Ellis. "Though GIT alums are often burning soloists and shredders, the school puts a strong emphasis on being a well-rounded musician..."
