GIT Presents Superaxe Electric Guitar Ensemble

On Thursday, April 29, the Guitar Program at MI (GIT) welcomes Superaxe, an award-winning electric guitar ensemble featuring four dynamic, versatile, and accomplished Guitar majors from the University of Southern California. Coached by esteemed music professor and renowned contemporary jazz guitarist Richard Smith, Superaxe features adventurous, intricate, and often completely original instrumental arrangements of metal, funk, fusion, and acid-jazz material orchestrated for multiple guitars.“Superaxe has over a dozen first-place wins and outstanding musicianship citations from appearances in festivals all across the western United States,” said Smith. “Former members are now playing with a wide range of artists, including Josh Grobin, Mark Anthony, Christina Aguilera, Snoop Dogg, Run DMC, Miley Cyrus, The Manhattan Transfer, Frankie Valli, Alcatrazz and the L.A. Philharmonic.”The current lineup of Superaxe features Stig Mathisen, Matt Lake, John Schroeder, and Jack Kovaks (all on electric guitar) plus Scott Spongberg (drums) and Tim Archer (bass).
