On Monday, March 2, MI’s Voice Program (VIT) presents a special seminar with NY studio guitar legend Hugh McCracken. McCracken has appeared on thousands of recordings as a musician and worked with legendary producers Phil Spector, Phil Ramone, and Tommy Lipuma. As an accompanist he has backed such A-list artists as John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys, Steely Dan, B.B.King, Donald Fagen and Paul Simon among many others. He has written, produced and played on hundreds of commercials and is also a first-call harmonica player.

During his seminar, McCracken will discuss his experiences as a vocal accompanist, the interplay between the singer and session musicians, and how producers work with singers to bring out the best vocal performances. He will also cover the various roles a guitarist must be prepared to handle in the studio as well as session etiquette.
