Pitchford began his career as an actor on and off Broadway (Godspell, Pippin) before turning to songwriting ("Fame","All the Man That I Need"), screenwriting (Footloose, Sing) and directing (HBO's Bloodbrothers). He has been nominated for four Academy Awards (winning for Fame), two Tonys and five Grammys, has written countless top-ten hits for artists as diverse as Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler, Diana Ross and Cher, and has sold over fifty million records.
