MI Expands Outreach to High Schools, Career Counselors Dec 10, 2008
MI has recently been expanding its efforts to educate high school students about the potential for careers in contemporary music. Recent and upcoming events include visits to Los Angeles-area schools including Saugus High School, West Covina High School, and Gardena High School as well as California National Hispanic College Fairs in San Diego, Costa Mesa, Azusa, San Jose, and Stockton. MI’s outreach coordinator Travis Johnson (pictured with students from Saugus) explained, “The high school events are generally arranged by college counselors, often on the suggestion of a student who has heard about MI. Many high school students, even those who are taking band or are playing music on their own, are not really aware of the range of careers that are possible in contemporary music, or of the option of attending a college that prepares students for music careers. For many of these students, MI is exactly what they’re looking for.” If you are a high school student or know a student or career counselor who may be interested in having Musicians Institute attend a college or career fair, please contact Travis at 323-860-1119; travisj@mi.edu.
