On Thursday, November 6, MI presents a unique musical event featuring Marakamundi, an award-winning Brazilian quartet led by guitarist (and GIT grad) Tex. The performance-clinic will expose MI students to a cross-section of Brazilian styles with particular focus on Chorinho, performed on the cavaquinho (a small stringed instrument similar to the ukulele). The group, which has presented similar events across South America and Europe, will perform and discuss the concepts, rhythms and chord progressions typical of the style and how they can be fused with jazz and contemporary improvisation.
