VIT "American Idol" Fave Lands Record Deal
Nov 19, 2004

Billboard Magazine has reported that former VIT student and favorite American Idol contestant Latoya London has just signed with independent label Peak Records. She's due to begin recording a mix of original material and covers in January toward an anticipated summer release for her debut disc.

Widely touted as the contestant to beat from early in the competition, London was voted out only after reaching the final four. Despite losing the top spot, her talent virtually guaranteed industry offers. "Latoya will follow in the footsteps of Whitney Houston and the other great female R&B singers that shaped the genre," Peak president Andi Howard says. "She's smart, beautiful, witty and incredibly talented."

London gave up her full-time studies at the Vocal Institute of Technology when the competition kicked into high gear and has remained busy ever since as a featured performer on the American Idols Live tour and in personal appearances scheduled through the end of the year.
