MI Announces Stanley Clarke Scholarship

Musicians Institute announces a scholarship opportunity available to students currently enrolled in an instrument or vocal program at MI:  the Stanley Clarke Scholarship.

Established by renowned bassist and composer Stanley Clarke, the scholarship is designed to assist outstanding students of guitar, bass, drums, keyboards or voice with their financial needs while attending Musicians Institute.

Please read through the information below to find out if you qualify and how to apply for this exceptional opportunity.

Qualification Guidelines
To qualify for the Stanley Clarke Scholarship, you must:

Be currently enrolled full-time at Musicians Institute and have completed at least two quarters in a guitar, bass, drum, keyboard or voice certificate or degree program at Musicians Institute (U.S. citizenship is not a requirement).

Have maintained a minimum 3.00 GPA.

Demonstrate exceptional performing ability on your instrument and serious commitment to a music education.

Amount
The amount of each award varies according to total funds available and the number of scholarships awarded (previous awards have totaled $1000-4000 apiece). Each award will consist of a combination of cash and tuition reduction. This scholarship may be combined with any other financial aid for which you also qualify.

How to apply
Scholarship applicants must submit all materials listed below in a single package. Incomplete packages will not be considered:

Recording: a CD (no more than 2 selections) demonstrating your musical abilities and stylistic strength.

Written statement: A one-page personal statement describing any special circumstances that should be taken into consideration when evaluating your qualifications, such as personal character, musical goals, and/or hardships.

Letters of recommendation:  two letters of recommendation (maximum one page each), one from an MI Instructor and the other from someone outside your family who knows you as a person and a musician. Each recommendation should include the length of time that they have known you; talk about your character, commitment to music, or any other relevant information; and state why they think you should receive this scholarship.

Photo: a clear photograph of yourself (maximum 5”X7”).

Application deadline
All materials must be submitted in a single package by October 26, 2007. Submissions will not be returned.

Finalists
Finalists will be notified by October 30, 2007. Each finalist is required to perform two selections (solo or with a band) at a live concert in P-100 on November 13, 2007. Mr. Clarke will personally select scholarship award winners at the final performance. 

Other information
Scholarship recipients must continue to meet all academic requirements and standards of conduct while enrolled at MI. If a recipient’s GPA falls below 3.0, the award may be suspended or revoked.
