Independent Artist Program Presents DIY (Do It Yourself) Panel
| Oct 15, 2009
On Thursday, October 15 from 4-6pm, MI’s Independent Artist Program presents a special DIY (i.e. Do It Yourself) panel discussion in the Concert Hall. The panel, moderated by MI instructor Bobby Borg, will include Scot Austin (CEO, Authentik Artists), Jon Bates (Independent Artist, Mellowdrone), Ted Lowe (Founder, Choice Tracks), and Sid Austin (Disc Makers). This event is open to all current and prospective MI students. If you have already applied to MI or are thinking about it for the future, please contact MI's Admissions Department to confirm your reservation. Topics for discussion that are important to all aspiring artists and music business professionals include: Will the business model of the future be one where music is free, and if so, how should independent artists plan to meet these changes now? How should new and developing artists view the record label in the digital age? Are independent artists making any money? If so, how? How are artists utilizing their fans, free services, and sponsorships to advance their careers? What are some novel approaches that independent artists are using to release and market their music in the digital age?
