LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In an exciting cooperative move that joins two of the city's great music institutions, Musicians Institute in Hollywood (www.mi.edu) is proud to announce that it has lent its support to Los Angeles's newest, most exciting cultural destination, the Grammy Museum.
Located in LA Live, the sprawling new downtown entertainment complex that includes Staples Center, Nokia Theater, Club Nokia, and the Conga Room, the museum houses state-of-the-art interactive exhibits and artifacts detailing the history of the Grammys, the art and technology of music creation, and the multiple personalities and influences that have made recorded music a dominant cultural influence around the world.
As part of its corporate sponsorship, MI is working with the museum to develop and present a variety of contemporary music education-oriented events and programs.
“The mission of the Grammy Museum is a perfect fit for MI,” said MI's Vice President of Education Beth Marlis. “We're both dedicated to increasing awareness about the importance of music education, particularly in an era where it has greatly diminished in public schools. The museum has also done a superb job of creating a real hands-on experience for visitors where you can actually participate in the music-making process, an approach that also dovetails with MI's philosophy of practical hands-on education.”

Since opening its doors in 1977, Musicians Institute has primed over 20,000 musicians, producers, engineers, vocalists and industry professionals for successful careers in every genre of contemporary music. Located just blocks from the Capitol Records tower, MI has an incredible history of innovation dating back to its origins in 1977 as the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT), which broke new ground as a performance-based contemporary music school taught by working professionals. Within a few years, GIT was joined by bass and
drum programs to form Musicians Institute and the evolution has continued to this day with degree and certificate programs for career-minded guitarists, bassists, drummers, vocalists, keyboardists, recording engineers, independent producers, guitar makers, music business professionals and filmmakers.
