MUSICIANS INSTITUTE COLLEGE OF CONTEMPORARY MUSIC PRESENTS MUST-SEE MUSIC CLINICS AT THE 2011 NAMM H.O.T. ZONE
From January 13th through the 16th, the 2011 NAMM Show’s H.O.T. Zone heats up with clinics presented by Musicians Institute College of Contemporary Music (MI). The school’s debut at the NAMM Show features recognized clinicians discussing their craft, including legendary bass player Stanley Clarke, drummer Marco Minnemann, and guitarist Carl Verheyen.
Legendary Bass Player Stanley Clarke to Give His Tips for the Stage January 15th at 1:45 PM Los Angeles, CA (January 10, 2011) — From January 13th through the 16th, the 2011 NAMM Show’s H.O.T. Zone heats up with clinics presented by Musicians Institute College of Contemporary Music (MI). The school’s debut at the NAMM Show features recognized clinicians discussing their craft, including legendary bass player Stanley Clarke, drummer Marco Minnemann, and guitarist Carl Verheyen. Clinics focus on topics relevant for the stage, studio and digital arena including a panel of experts to discuss Songwriting Techniques and Tips and a workshop devoted to Production. The H.O.T. Zone clinics take place on Level 2 of the Anaheim Convention Center. Hands-On Training or H.O.T. Zone is designed to create custom solutions targeted especially to professionals in the recording, live sound, House of Worship, and stage and lighting industries. Along with MI, industry partners, publishers, organizations and associations offer free special training seminars, face-to-face meetings, networking opportunities, and one-on-one mentoring to strengthen the knowledge base of industry colleagues. GRAMMY winner Stanley Clarke is legendary in the world of contemporary bass guitar. He is the first bass player in history to headline sold-out tours and have an album certified as “gold.” Clarke’s clinic will focus on live performance techniques for bass players and welcome questions from beginners and experts alike. - Songwriting Tips & Techniques Panel on Sunday, January 16 at 10:45 AM in the Stage Room
Witness and engage yourself in a well-rounded discussion of songwriting, artist development and the process of song placement. The panel includes songwriters Alan Rich, Jonathan Lazar and Alan Roy Scott alongside A&R Representatives Richard Csabai and Erin Workman. - Getting Great Drum Sounds on Stage and in the Studio on Sunday, January 16 at 2:15 PM in the Stage Room
World-class drumming innovator Marco Minnemann is a drummer, composer, producer and engineer. Known internationally as a “total drumming Super-Freak,” Marco’s knowledge of percussion in the contemporary music world is un-matched. In this clinic, he will instruct attendees with techniques for producing excellent sound for both the recording studio and the live stage and will answer questions from the audience. THE STUDIO

Break down the science of music production with audio engineer and MI faculty member Darryl Swann. Learn to produce a track professionally, troubleshoot common problems, and enhance your engineering knowledge with this in-depth clinic. Whether you’re a beginner looking for an overview, or a veteran with specific questions, this clinic will provide both general information and thoughtful insights on the latest production software and their capabilities. - Modern Guitar in the 21st Century with Carl Verheyen on Saturday, January 15 at 12:30pm in the Digital Musician Room
Heralded by Classic Rock Magazine as “One of the Top 100 guitarists of all time,” Carl Verheyen of SUPERTRAMP will demonstrate for attendees the stylistic techniques that are characteristic of contemporary guitar in the 21st century. See how modern guitar has evolved throughout the later end of the 20th century to become what it is today.
