MI ANNOUNCES FIVE NEW SCHOLARSHIPS SPONSORED BY D’ADDARIO STRINGS AND EVANS DRUMHEADS BEGINNING WITH THE CLASS OF FALL 2009

Further affirming its commitment to helping students achieve a quality musical education, Musicians Institute (www.mi.edu) is proud to announce the creation of five new scholarships generously sponsored by D’Addario Strings and Evans Drumheads.

Beginning with the Fall 2009 class, the prestigious D’Addario Guitar and Evans Drum Scholarships will be awarded annually to guitar and drum students enrolling in MI's Associate of Arts in Performance program. The D’Addario Guitar Scholarship will be awarded to three applicants who demonstrate a high level of musicianship in their chosen style, and the two Evans Drum Scholarships will be awarded based on outstanding overall musicianship and versatility.

D’Addario & Company markets and manufactures D’Addario Strings and Evans Drumheads and supports education through a variety of outlets including the D’Addario Music Foundation.

For over 100 years, D’Addario electric and acoustic guitar strings have been a top-selling brand and the favorite of countless artists and performers. For more than fifty years, Evans Drumheads has been a pioneer in drumhead design, offering innovative products and exceptional quality.

To learn more about both companies, visit their websites at www.daddario.com and www.evansdrumheads.com.

The D’Addario and Evans Scholarships are available to both U.S. and non-U.S. citizens. Students enrolling in October 2009 who wish to be considered must submit their applications no later than September 15, 2009; award recipients will be notified within two weeks.

Since opening its doors in 1977, Musicians Institute has primed over 20,000 musicians, producers, engineers, vocalists and industry professionals for successful careers in every genre of contemporary music. Located just blocks from the Capitol Records tower, MI has an incredible history of innovation dating back to its origins in 1977 as the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT), which broke new ground as a performance-based contemporary music school taught by working professionals. Within a few years, GIT was joined by bass and drum programs to form Musicians Institute and the evolution has continued to this day with degree and certificate programs for career-minded guitarists, bassists, drummers, vocalists, keyboardists, recording engineers, independent producers, guitar makers, music business professionals and filmmakers.
