JORDAN ACKERMAN
Audio Engineering Grad Is Using The Expertise He Learned At Musicians Institute As One Of Today’s Top Reality TV Editors

Since Musicians Institute (www.mi.edu) launched its world renowned Audio Engineering Program (also known as the Recording Institute of Technology) just over 15 years ago, the department has equipped thousands of talented students for successful careers as producers, engineers, artists and numerous other high profile positions in the music industry.

One of these, Jordan Ackerman, has an exciting ongoing success story to report. He is working steadily as a Lead Assistant Editor for television, with a resume that includes such shows as “Big Brother 6,” “Chelsea Handler Show,” “Raising the Roofs,” “Pick Up Artist,” “Age of Love,” “Petfinder,” “Opportunity Knocks,” “Dice Undisputed” and “Hell’s Kitchen 3 and 6.”

“The program’s hands-on experience was invaluable to me, from learning all of the gear and signal flow of recording to workflow with producers and artists,” says Ackerman, who graduated in 2006.  I also had two internships at recording studios where I worked first-hand with engineers and artists from small bands looking to make their first album to major hip-hop artists like Snoop Dogg and members of DPG.”

Currently the Lead Assistant Editor for “Hell’s Kitchen 6,” Ackerman gives much of the credit for his success to the time he spent in MI’s recording program: “I am amazed at how much of that knowledge translated into television post-production, from having a sound understanding of electronic equipment and computers to project organization and handling politics in an entertainment environment. My training gave me the confidence to put myself out there to meet new people and get jobs and the thick skin to make it through the hardest and longest of days.”

MI’s Engineering program has been in major expansion mode of late, debuting its exciting new Post Production Audio Program in the fall of 2008.

Instruction takes place on the newly built state-of-the-art THX-certified dubbing stage, a room created by famed studio designer Jay Kaufman that houses the Digidesign ICON D-Control and is a formidable rival to many of the commercial studios in Los Angeles.

Since opening its doors in 1977, Musicians Institute has trained over 20,000 musicians, producers, engineers, vocalists and industry professionals for successful careers in every genre of contemporary music.
