Beth Marlis is a Vocational Honors graduate of GIT ('86), holds a BA in Music from UC Santa Cruz, a Masters of Music from USC in Studio/Jazz Guitar Performance and was the Director of GIT from 2000-2009 before becoming MI’s Vice President of Education. She has co-authored (with Daniel Gilbert) two best-selling instructional books and a video release for Hal Leonard/MI Press (
Guitar Soloing and
Advanced Guitar Soloing). While working her way up the musical food chain, Beth has performed with a wide range of artists including Harold Land, Brownie McGee, Helen Reddy and Louis Bellson in addition to several tours and innumerable gigs. She has also composed more than a dozen independent film scores and maintains an active schedule as a freelance guitarist. She served on the Steering Committee and as a panel moderator for the 2004 World Guitar Congress and as a judge for the 2007 North American Rock Guitar Competition.
