Calderwood, Andrea Vocals
Andrea Calderwood’s performance résumé includes work with such internationally recognized artists as Ben Folds, John Williams, The L.A. Philharmonic Orchestra, Doc Severinson and the Boston Pops. Andrea has won a number of prestigious awards, including The Friends of Jazz Award, The Harriet Genung Award, The Plotkins Vocal Scholarship, and The Outstanding Vocal Soloist Award at the Monterey Jazz “Next Generation” Festival. Andrea received her BA in Music from California State University, Fullerton and is currently completing her MA at Cal State Long Beach Cole Conservatory of Music. After receiving a scholarship from the Ella Fitzgerald Foundation, Andrea studied with veterans Christine Guter and Jeff Jarvis. An accomplished arranger and teacher, Andrea received a 2010 Downbeat Award for Jazz Arranging at the graduate level from Downbeat magazine. Her private high-school students have been named to the California All-State Vocal Jazz Ensemble for the last four consecutive years. Andrea has served as choir master for Ben Folds with the Dallas Symphony, has adjudicated the Brandon jazz festival in Manitoba, Canada, and served as a judge for the Western ICCA finals. At MI, Andrea teaches and is the co-writer of the curriculum for Vocal Performance (VAA and Bachelor). Andrea is the Vocal Program Chair and teaches Private Lessons, Contemporary Vocal Ensemble and Bachelor Vocal Performance.
