Federal Pell Grant

The Pell Grant program is intended to help provide eligible students access to the post-secondary institution of their choice. Pell Grants are gifts from the Department of Education for undergraduate students that are not repaid. The Department of Education uses the information provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine your eligibility.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)

The SEOG is for undergraduate students with exceptional need and is not repaid. This program is funded by the Department of Education and administered by the school’s financial aid office. Please note that these funds are limited and awards are offered on a “first come first serve basis”.

California Grant Program (CAL Grant)

California residents may qualify for the California Grant Program (CAL Grant). The application process for the CAL Grant program requires that students (and parents if applicable) complete and sign their FAFSA prior to March 2nd of the application year. Brief descriptions of the CAL Grant programs are listed below. Please access the California Student Aid Commission website at www.csac.ca.gov for more detailed information.

NOTE: to be eligible for the CAL Grant Program this year, you must submit your completed FAFSA by March 2, 2010.

2010-2011 CAL Grant Entitlement Programs

This grant is available to students who will be graduating from High School after July 1, 2009 or 2010, have not attended college, and meet the eligibility requirements described below (High School GPA certification required):

  • CAL Grant A: GPA of 3.0 or above and family income does not exceed the income and asset ceilings.*
  • CAL Grant B: GPA of 2.0 or above and family income does not exceed the income and asset ceilings.*
  • CAL Grant C: student must complete a supplemental vocational assessment form and return it to the California Student Aid Commission; family income does not exceed the income and asset ceilings.*

* Asset Ceilings are adjusted annually and are displayed at www.csac.ca.gov.

2010/2011 CAL Grant Community College Transfer Entitlement

This grant is available to students who have completed at least 24 semester credits or 36 quarter credits, will be less than 28 years old (at the time of enrollment) or graduated from High School after 2001, and meet the eligibility requirements below (Community College GPA certification required):

  • CAL Grant A or B: GPA of 2.4 or above and family income does not exceed the income and asset ceilings.*
  • CAL Grant C: student must complete a supplemental vocational assessment form and return it to the California Student Aid Commission; family income does not exceed the income and asset ceilings.*

2010/2011 CAL Grant A or B Competitive or CAL Grant C Applicants

This grant is available to students who have completed a minimum number of college credits that are transferable to a four-year college (College GPA certification required).

  • College GPA if more than 24 semester or 36 quarter units have been completed (MI Students with more than 36 units earned by the end of Fall 2010 will be certified automatically).
  • Students who graduated from High School prior to July 1, 2008 with no college credits completed.

High School GPA, GED Scores, SAT or ACT Scores Required

  • High School GPA or GED scores (certified by the High School)
  • CAL Grant C: student must complete a supplemental vocational assessment form and return it to the California Student Aid Commission.
