Jorge Vidal CD Release
Mar 08, 2007
Guitar
Jorge Vidal checks in from his home in Chile to report that he has a CD in release and another coming this year. "The first album is called Atacama (you can hear some tunes at www.jorgevidal.cl)", says Jorge. "It is played on jazz-progressive radio stations down here. Next April we will start recording the new one, Shamballah Express."
Jorge also shares some stories about life since MI. "I attended GIT in '91-'92. I have to say that my time spent at Musicians Institute was great, and marked me for my whole life! After a brief period of "resting", I returned to South America and started to play a lot in Chile and Argentina, and in many different styles - Blues, R&B, Jazz, Rock, etc,. Did gigs and recordings. As time was passing by, I started to teach also in several institutions, and had the chance to play with many people. Later on, in 1997, I came back to Los Angeles and had a great time playing gigs with awesome guys like Tom MacMorran, [GIT instructor] Jean Marc Belkadi, Hans Zermuellen and Jan Fabricki. It was great. After that, I came back again to Chile (my son Ulises was only 2 years at that time, and my family was living in Chile, so I couldn´t spent much time in Los Angeles...my very first job is being a father really). Since then, I try to play as much as I can, and by now I teach at Projazz (www.projazz.cl) in Santiago de Chile. I do clinics and play a lot in Chile and Argentina, and I consider myself very lucky to share with incredible musicians from everywhere, like great drummer Mr. Rick Latham and Maxx Furian at Santiago Backstage Drumfest during August, this last year.
"I feel very grateful with my life, although sometimes music takes you to places and specially "inner places" that are very "far" and gets pretty rough sometimes also, but makes you grow in several senses. I really don´t know what the real meaning of "success" would be - it seems so relative and includes so many different points of view - but one thing is for sure: I live through music, it´s my job but I also love it so much. It gave me the opportunity to travel, to meet great people, great musicians and great audiences. I constantly share with people from everywhere, from different places in the world, and I´m very happy for it. I also see my students touring everywhere like Mexico, Europe, etc, and feel very happy for them. So, if a sort of happiness can be considered "success", I´m very succesful, and everyday I carry my MI memories, giving me incredible satisfaction and strength even thru the hardest moments. I learned so much from my teachers and my incredible GIT classmates, so much as you can´t imagine. Thanks!!"
