Jake Eckert Touring the World with Dirty Dozen Brass Band
Aug 21, 2008
Guitar
Following his graduation from MI's Bachelor Degree program, Jake Eckert (Guitar) joined the school's guitar faculty before leaving in 2007 to hit the road with New Orleans’ legendary Dirty Dozen Brass Band. “The band was formed in the mid 70's and has recorded and performed with everyone from Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie to the Black Crowes, Dave Mathews, Modest Mouse, Widespread Panic and The Grateful Dead,” Jake said. “Since joining them I have performed over 300 shows in more than 10 countries. We will be doing another European tour in October and touring Asia, Australia, Canada and the U.S. throughout the next year.

“I am also in the process of completing my first solo record with my own compositions and arrangements. The album will feature members of Dirty Dozen, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Little Feat, and many others. I am also a member of the Jazz/Funk band New Soul Underground whose album Greasy Feat features Larry Carlton sitting in on guitar. I have also performed or recorded with Robbie Kreiger (The Doors), Nicholas Payton, Michael Landau, Gary Novak, Jesse McCartney, Buddy Guy, Pancho Sanchez, Travis Carlton, Kirk Fletcher, James Gadson and many others.

“My time in the Degree program gave me the tools I needed to be successful in the music business. MI provided me with the teachers and environment that maximized learning music within a broad spectrum of theory, arranging and performance. It also helped me learn how to be a musician both with and without my instrument in my hand.”
