Kory Montgomery Opening for B.B.King
Jan 23, 2008
Guitar
Kory Montgomery (Guitar) was recently profiled in Northwest Arkansas News.  The 19-year old graduate of MI’s Guitar Certificate program is set to open for the legendary B.B. King at The Auditorium in Eureka Springs, Arkansas on January 27.
This will be the second time in four years that Montgomery, a native of Rogers, Arkansas, has opened for King. In 2004, the young singer and guitarist—who graduated from GIT last August—was one of three supporting acts for the blues icon at King’s annual hometown festival in Indianola, Mississippi. Immediately after what he terms his “first big gig,” Montgomery went to Club Ebony, an Indianola staple that has hosted Ray Charles and James Brown. After watching King perform just a few feet away from where he sat, he hung out with the legend and met well-known contemporary blues artist Kenny Wayne Shepherd. That same June, Montgomery played at the Eureka Springs Blues Festival, in a park across the street from The Auditorium, where Buddy Guy performed.

Graduating from Rogers High School in 2006, Montgomery hit the road with some friends and performed for several months. Then, he looked for something else to help him grow as a musician. He attended the Grammy Foundation’s Grammy Camp, where he heard about the Musicians Institute. He soon moved to Los Angeles and enrolled at GIT. Montgomery’s sound has since expanded from straight blues, and while in L.A., he formed his Q Revue band with four other MI students. He has also recorded an album called Five Past Ten in addition to two demo projects. To learn more, visit his website.
