RIT Presents Straight Talk, Hypnotic Secrets
Oct 17, 2008

On Friday, October 17, MI’s Recording Institute presents a special dual seminar in Studio A.

First up, audio industry veterans Dave Hampton (pictured) and Lisa Chamblee-Hampton provide RIT students with “Straight Talk About the Biz,” a practical discussion of career-oriented topics including getting clients and gigs, client satisfaction, getting paid, audio jobs and salary ranges and how to conduct your business. Dave Hampton has worked for over twenty years in audio recording, production, and studio design, building a client list that includes Babyface, Chicago, Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller, and Prince. Five-time Grammy-nominated engineer Lisa Chamblee-Hampton has worked with such artists as Prince, Herbie Hancock, Larry Graham, Michael Brecker, Michael Bland, Sonny T, Kirk Johnson, Wallace Roney, Geri Allen, and Matthew Garrison.

In the second half of the clinic, A-list engineer Khaliq Glover reveals “Hypnotic Audio Secrets,” the methods behind the polished sound and "hypnotic effect" of hit recordings. Glover will address techniques for getting punchy, fat, drum and bass sounds, including new ways for using EQ, dynamics, and FX, as well as how to achieve polished mixes with the least amount of effort. Glover’s engineering career has included work with Prince, Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Herbie Hancock, Usher, Jamie Foxx, Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam, Patty LaBelle, and Jeffrey Osborne as well as We Are The World with Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, and other superstars.
